Scholarships Available to Horticulture Majors
Use the Horticulture Department Scholarship Application (Due March 15th) to apply for the following scholarships:
ROLLAND A. BEGLAU MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A $500 award to a major in horticulture. Preference given to those studying some aspect of pomology or vegetable production.
THE WILBUR W. BURKHART SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is for an undergraduate in horticulture exhibiting financial need.
GENERAL DILLINGHAM PRODUCE INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIP
A $1000 award to a junior or senior full-time student intending to enter fresh fruit and vegetable industry in an area between production and marketing. The award is based on sincerity of purpose, character, leadership, scholastic record, and financial need. Help provided to obtain employment between junior and senior years.
BRUCE FADDIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A one to three term tuition scholarship (in-state) awarded annually in the summer to students who will be graduating during the next school year. Eligible students must be pursuing careers as golf course superintendents, have significant practical experience at golf courses, and demonstrate a commitment to the industry via activities in and out of classes and involvement with turf projects at the Lewis-Brown Farm. Academic performance is considered but is not the determining factor. Submit departmental scholarship forms no later than May 15 to be considered for the following year.
GROW AND SHOW GARDEN CLUB
One or more awards as funds are made available by the Club. Limited to juniors and seniors in horticulture who show evidence of ability, promise, and need for minimum college expenses. Nominations are sent to the club for final selection.
JACKSON COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS ASSOCIATION
Scholarship honors a Jackson County High School graduate who will be a junior, senior, or graduate student to further his or her education in a plant-related field (includes all horticulture options). Requirements: cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; the names of two individuals that we can contact as a reference [one an instructor], an interview (by phone if needed) with the OSU Scholarship Committee and completion of an application. A scholarship of up to $2500 will be awarded.
EZRA J. KRAUS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One or more full or half tuition scholarships available to students in ornamental horticulture on the basis of financial need and scholarship.
OREGON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Jane Kerr Platt Memorial Awards available to honor Jane Kerr Platt whose garden in west Portland is an extraordinary collection of unusual plant materials. Selection based on academic achievement and financial need, and interest in landscape design, propagation and/or use of native plant materials. Must be a graduate of a U.S. high school.
OSU HORTICULTURE CLUB
$1000 awarded spring term. Selection based on financial need and Horticulture Club and community involvement. Must be an undergraduate in horticulture and have at least a 3.0 Major GPA. IN addition to the Horticulture Department Scholarships form, submit the Horticulture Club Scholarship Application.
OREGON FEDERATION OF GARDEN CLUBS – CLAIRE HENLEY SCHOLARSHIP
A scholarship for an Oregon resident sophomore or upper division student majoring in ornamental and landscape horticulture. Awarded on the basis of excellence in scholarship, personal qualifications and financial need.
OREGON MASTER GARDENER ASSOCIATION RAY MCNEILAN SCHOLARSHIP
An award of $1000 given to a junior or senior Horticulture major. To receive this award, a junior must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or above, and a senior must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
OSU HORTICULTURE CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
POLK COUNTY MASTER GA
For a junior or senior, preference is given to graduates of Polk County High School or other rural OR counties. Based on financial need and being in good academic standing.
REDMOND GARDEN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
A $500 award for a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student. First consideration given to applicants from Center Oregon. Preference given to members of the Ornamental and Landscape Club who have a connection to the Extension program (4-H or internship).
JAY FRANK SCHMIDT SCHOLARSHIP
A $1500 scholarship with a preference for students studying ornamental or nursery plants. Based on financial need and academic achievement.
ARTHUR THOMAS AND LULA MAY MATTHEWS SCHOLARSHIP
An award of varying amount given to a sophomore, junior or senior Horticulture major selected by the Horticulture Department faculty.
DONALD VOORHIES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A $1000 scholarship funded by the Willamette Valley Vineyards. The recipient must be enrolled full-time, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and be studying viticulture.

COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIPS
The College of Agricultural Sciences administers a number of scholarships available to agriculture majors. Listed below are those specially open to horticulture majors.
LEO L. ANDERSON JR.MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Agriculture or Home Economics (rotates each year between colleges). Leadership skills, academic achievement, experience in Extension-related activities, career goal in Extension Service.
DON BURLINGHAM SCHOLARSHIP
Based on need, leadership and character.
WAYNE & JOANNE CHAMBERS SCHOLARSHIP
Sophomore that has graduated from an Oregon high school with demonstrated financial need and personal contribution to educational expenses.
ROD FRAKES SCHOLARSHIP
Undergraduate or graduate student. Intended for a dependent of an Oregon grass seed grower. GPA: 2.5 or better for undergraduates; 3.0 or better for graduates. Preference given to Crop and Soil Science majors.
FRIENDS OF OREGON AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP
Undergraduate or graduate student who has demonstrated academic achievement and the desire to pursue a career in agriculture.
JESS HANSON SCHOLARSHIP
For graduates of Oregon's Benton County high schools.
Based on need and/or scholastic merit.
URSULA BOLT KNAUS
Based on financial need and 2.5 or better cumulative GPA.
McMINNVILLE WOMEN'S GARDEN CLUB
Recipient selected by donor.
BEN & PHYLLIS NEWELL SCHOLARSHIP
Sophomore student who has demonstrated financial need and personal contribution to education expenses.
DORIS MARDIS TIBBETTS SCHOLARSHIP
Sophomore, Junior or Senior student who is well-rounded in leadership, scholarship and career objectives, minimum 2.5 GPA.

Annie's Homegrown Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program
Annie's Homegrown, maker of natural and organic mac & cheese, and dedicated sustainability supporter, is now accepting applications for its new Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program. The new program will award $50,000 to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in sustainable and organic agriculture, including three $10,000 scholarships and eight $2,500 scholarships.

AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR ENOLOGY AND VITICULTURE

All of the following requirement must be met:
1. Undergraduate and graduate students must be enrolled in or accepted into a full-time accredited four year college or university program. They must reside in North America (Canada, Mexico, or USA). Applicants should be a minimum of junior status for the upcoming academic year (45 semester units/60quarter units).
2. Undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Graduate students must have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.2. These averages must be based on a scale maximum of 4.0.
3. Applicants must be enrolled in a major, or in a graduate group, emphasizing enology or viticulture, or in a curriculum emphasizing a science basic to the wine grape industry.
4. Completed application packet must be received by March 1.
AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE

1. Junior or senior standing beginning fall of award year.
2. Registered as full time.
3. Excellence in academic performance in the major.
4. Participation in extracurricular activities relating to horticulture.

FIRST – FLORICULTURE INDUSTRY RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP TRUST Application
Pursuing a career in a horticulture-related field, have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a resident of the U.S. or Canada.
GARDEN CLUB OF AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP Application
Numerous scholarships are available.
GCSAA SCHOLARS COMPETITION
Selection criteria for this program includes academic excellence, work experience, extracurricular activities and potential to become a leading professional in the golf course management industry. These scholarships range from $500 to $6,000. Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized undergraduate program in a major field related to turf management, have completed at least 24 credit hours or the equivalent of one year of full-time study in the appropriate major, and be a member of GCSAA. GCSAA STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST
The golf course management profession is the basis of this contest. This program awards scholarships totaling $4,500 to applicants who are undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in turfgrass science, agronomy or any other field related to golf course management. The original essays should be 7 to 12 pages in length. The winning essay may be featured in the online version of GCM. The annual deadline is March 31. HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND Application
Awards range from $1000 to $3000. Must be of Hispanic heritage, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and have earned at least 15 undergraduate college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.7. Based on financial need and academic achievement.
NATIONAL COUNCIL OF STATE GARDEN CLUBS Application
$3500 awarded to encourage study of horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning, land management and allied subjects. Only one applicant per state; 20 total awarded.
NORTHWEST TURFGRASS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
A $750 scholarship awarded annually in the fall to students pursuing careers in the turf industry. Preference is given to students with strong academic records, a history of industry involvement, and potential to become industry leaders. Applications arrive at the Horticulture Department office in early spring and must be submitted to the NTA by April. Recipients are notified in late spring.
OREGON ASSOCIATION OF NURSERIES SCHOLARSHIPS More Info
Several scholarships are offered, with the intent to encourage students to enter into and complete their academic studies in ornamental horticulture, and then to enter the nursery industry as qualified employees of fellow nursery professionals. Personal interviews may be conducted prior to final selection by Oregon Nurserymen's Foundation Committee.
OREGON GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT'S ASSOCIATION (OGCSA) SCHOLARSHIP Application
A $500+ scholarship awarded to students of junior standing or higher pursuing careers as golf course superintendents. Preference is given to students with strong academic records and extensive golf course work experience. It also helps if you are a student member of OGCSA and have worked for a member of the organization. Selection is made by a committee of OGCSA members. Applications usually arrive in the Horticulture Department office in March and must be submitted to the OGCSA by their deadline.
OREGON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY Application
Two or more scholarships awarded to undergraduate students in horticulture or related fields. Preference is given to horticulture majors. Recipients selected by the Oregon Horticultural Society Scholarship Committee
OREGON SEED TRADE ASSOCIATION
Scholarships for freshmen, sophomores or juniors in horticulture, agricultural and resource economics, and crop science. Award is based on interest in agriculture, the Oregon Seed Trade Association, and a high level of academic achievement. Departments select qualified candidates who in turn are interviewed by the Oregon Seed Trade Association Scholarship Committee. Scholarship applications available from the Advising Center of the OSU Crop and Soil Science Department.
OSU FOLK CLUB – FOR OLDER-THAN-AVERAGE WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP Application
$1500 awards to women who are U.S. citizens, residents of Benton County, over the age of 25 at application deadline date and who will attend OSU and carry at least 8 credits per term. Principal criteria are financial need and merit.

PLANET Application
Scholarships for students studying landscaping at an institution with an accredited ALCA Landscaping Contracting Curriculum and/or with an ALCA Student Chapter Membership.
This $1000 award was established in 1988-89 by the Multnomah Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. It is awarded annually to sophomore and higher students majoring in Horticulture.
Majoring in a degree program related to the field of floriculture and intending to work in some area of commercial floriculture in the United States.
SPORTS-TURF MANAGERS ASSOCIATION - SAFE SCHOLARSHIP
To provide financial assistance to deserving students from Linn County who are enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences at OSU.
