Turf Club

The OSU Turfgrass Club members are a close group of students who have selected the Turf and Landscape Management option in the Horticulture major. Most of the students enjoy the game of golf and want to become golf course superintendents. The club is open to any student who feels they would fit into this category. The Turfgrass Club tries to merge these two activities - golf course maintenance and golfing - into various activities.

PURPOSE OF THE CLUB

  • Increase practical knowledge of the turfgrass industry
  • Provide opportunities to meet people working in the turfgrass industry
  • Assist in the process of finding internships, summer jobs, and permanent employment
  • Increase student participation in regional and national associations such as the Oregon Golf Course Superintendents Association (OGCSA) and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA)

CLUB ACTIVITIES

  • Travel to regional and national conferences
  • Raise funds by maintaining the Lewis-Brown Horticulture Farm and the CH2M Hill Alumni Center
  • Refurbish the Children's Golf Course (Gladstone, Oregon) in the spring and fall by coring and topdressing greens and tees, maintaining bunkers, trimming trees, and raising irrigation heads
  • Learn how to operate equipment such as mowers, aerifiers, topdressers, core harvesters, fertilizer spreaders, and sprayers through participation in the maintenance of the Lewis-Brown Farm, the CH2M Hill Alumni Center, and the Children's course
  • Gain camaraderie with other members through golf outings and other club activities

Meeting information will be posted on the bulletin board in the Agricultural and Life Sciences Building, on the 4th floor near Room 4159.
